Is Sheamus Going to AEW? Latest Update on His Future After Leaving WWE

Sheamus has been a free agent since his WWE contract ended on October 1, and the big question is where he goes next. According to the latest from Fightful Select, AEW is not in a rush.

What the latest report says

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that some AEW wrestlers want Sheamus in the company, with Claudio Castagnoli and Adam Copeland named among them. But he added that "there doesn't seem to be a huge urgency in bringing him in" and that "nothing seems imminent."

Sapp also said Sheamus has spoken with other companies since leaving WWE, and that he does not know whether Sheamus has had direct talks with AEW.

It is not the first time AEW has been linked with him. When his contract ran out at the start of October, WrestleVotes said on Fightful Select that AEW was expected to be interested in a full-time deal, but that there had been no talks at that point.

TNA also made contact

AEW is not the only option. The Wrestling Observer reported that TNA reached out to Sheamus about being Moose's mystery opponent at Bound for Glory. That did not happen.

Why Sheamus left WWE

Sheamus decided not to renew his WWE contract earlier this year. His exit was announced over the summer, and WWE moved his profile to its alumni page in July. His deal officially ran out on October 1, ending a run of nearly 20 years with the company.

He leaves as one of the most decorated WWE stars of his era: a four-time world champion, the 2010 King of the Ring, the 2012 Royal Rumble winner and the 2015 Mr. Money in the Bank. He won his first WWE Championship in 2009, only months after arriving on the main roster.

Our take

Sheamus is one of the best big-match workers of the last decade, and his hard-hitting style would fit AEW perfectly. Claudio and Copeland wanting him there is no surprise. But the report makes it clear that nothing is close, and with TNA and others in the picture, he has time to pick the right deal. Do not expect him on AEW TV in the next few weeks.

We will update this story when there is news on his next move.
