Blake Monroe Explains Why Her WWE Main Roster Debut Took So Long: "Injuries Changed a Lot of Things"
Blake Monroe's SmackDown vignettes started airing as early as April, but her first main roster match did not happen until October. Speaking on the Busted Open podcast, Monroe explained what took so long.
Her answer was simple: injuries. "Injuries changed a lot of things," she said.
Why the wait happened
Monroe said NXT used her every week and gave her plenty to do, while SmackDown "made a play" for her. Injuries then kept her out of the ring after the move, which left her waiting while the vignettes kept airing.
She admitted the time away was frustrating because she wanted to show people what she could do. But she also said the timing mattered and that she was waiting for the right story and the right opponent.
"I'm not somebody that you just throw out there," Monroe said.
Why Giulia was the right opponent
Monroe said Giulia was the right person to show what she can do in the ring. The two have been feuding on SmackDown, and Monroe beat Giulia in a Street Fight on the October 23 episode.
"I can actually go in the ring," she said.
Her big goal
Monroe is not short of confidence about what comes next. "I'm not just the next girl. I'm 'the girl,'" she said, adding that "the only way is up" and that she knows how she is going to be world champion "very soon."
What's next
Monroe is not booked for Crown Jewel on November 7. After her win over Giulia, her next program on SmackDown has not been announced yet. SmackDown is taped in Brooklyn after Raw on November 2 and airs on November 6.
