Drew McIntyre is not back on WWE television yet, but he already knows who he wants when he returns. In a recent interview on Going Ringside, the former world champion named CM Punk and Roman Reigns as the two men he wants to get his hands on. He was also honest about his history with Reigns.

“Then I gotta beat Roman because I've never beaten him,” McIntyre said.

He did not stop there. Taking a shot at the Bloodline, he added,

“Because Roman’s got 95 family members, I may have to bring the sword back.”

He also said he plans to “slap them around” once he is back.

It is a fun line, but it is also true. Drew McIntyre has never beaten Roman Reigns in a singles match in WWE, and the record between them is more one-sided than most fans probably realize.

Where Drew McIntyre is right now

McIntyre has not been seen on WWE television since WrestleMania 42 in April. He has spent the time since on acting work, and he used the Going Ringside interview to promote his film Agent of Shadows. He even joked that the movie finally let him use the sword he never got to swing in WWE.

He also pointed out that Reigns has his own Street Fighter project out right now.

“He’s doing some big things, but I think I’ll eclipse him in that area,” McIntyre said, keeping the rivalry going even outside the ring.

He has not given a date for his return.

Drew McIntyre is 0-30 against Roman Reigns in singles matches

McIntyre and Reigns have faced each other 30 times in singles matches in WWE. Reigns has won every single one.

Most of those 30 matches took place at house shows, away from the cameras. Five of them happened on television or at premium live events, and Reigns won all five:

  • WrestleMania 35 (April 7, 2019) – Reigns won
  • Raw (May 6, 2019) – Reigns won by disqualification
  • Stomping Grounds (June 23, 2019) – Reigns won
  • Survivor Series (November 22, 2020) – Reigns won by referee’s decision in a
    Champion vs. champion match
  • Clash at the Castle (September 3, 2022) – Reigns won to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

Reigns also beat McIntyre and Finn Balor in a triple threat on Raw in July 2018.

You can see McIntyre’s full WWE match record, including every match against Reigns, on his Superstar page here on WrestleSeek.

The closest Drew came: Clash at the Castle 2022

If there is one match that still hurts for McIntyre, it is Clash at the Castle. It was WWE's first big stadium show in the UK in decades. McIntyre, the proud Scot, was challenging Reigns for both world titles in front of a packed Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

He hit the Claymore and had Reigns beat. Then Solo Sikoa, making his main roster debut, pulled the referee out of the ring before he could count three. Reigns hit a Spear moments later and retained.

McIntyre has talked about that night many times since. It is easy to see why “I've never beaten him” still bothers him.

Their full record, including tag team matches

The numbers do not get much better for McIntyre when tag team and multi-man matches are added.

Across all WWE matches, they have been on opposite sides 106 times. Reigns' side has won 81 of those matches and McIntyre's side has won 23, with two ending in a No Contest.

On television and premium live events alone, they have faced each other 27 times. McIntyre’s side won five of those. The biggest was WarGames at Survivor Series 2025, when McIntyre, Brock Lesnar and The Vision beat the team of CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Reigns and The Usos.

The one time Drew got the better of Roman

There is one moment McIntyre can always point to. At the 2020 Royal Rumble, McIntyre and Reigns were the final two men in the match. Reigns went for a Superman Punch, McIntyre countered with a Claymore, and he threw Reigns over the top rope to win the Rumble.

That win took McIntyre to WrestleMania 36, where he beat Brock Lesnar to become the first British WWE Champion. It is the biggest win of his career, and it started with Reigns going over the top rope. It just was not a pinfall.

Drew McIntyre’s WWE career so far

McIntyre's story is one of the best comeback stories in modern WWE.

Born in Ayr, Scotland, in 1985, he was first pushed as Vince McMahon’s “Chosen One” in 2009. He won the Intercontinental Championship that year and held the WWE Tag Team Championship with Cody Rhodes in 2010. By 2014, he had slid down the card, and WWE released him.

He then rebuilt himself on the independent scene as Drew Galloway. He won titles all over the world, including the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and the EVOLVE Championship. That run changed how fans and WWE saw him.

He returned to WWE through NXT in 2017 and won the NXT Championship. He reached the main roster the following year, and in 2020 he finally became WWE Champion. He has since held the WWE Championship three times. His third run came as Undisputed WWE Champion from January to March 2026. He also held the World Heavyweight Championship for 5 minutes and 46 seconds at WrestleMania XL, before Damian Priest cashed in Money in the Bank on him.

Drew has been chasing Roman all year

McIntyre's comments are not new. In January 2026, he was Undisputed WWE Champion when Reigns won the Royal Rumble. McIntyre openly told Reigns to pick him for WrestleMania.

"Go for it, Roman, pick me. Let's main event WrestleMania, and I will drop your ass," McIntyre said at the time.

Reigns went after CM Punk and the World Heavyweight Championship instead, and won it at WrestleMania 42. McIntyre never got his match, and he is still waiting.
