The match was made on the June 29 episode of Monday Night Raw in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It came after Oba Femi, the new King of the Ring, chose to face Brock Lesnar instead of Reigns at the Biggest Party of the Summer.

Roman Reigns Opens the Segment

Roman Reigns came out for the main event segment with Jacob Fatu by his side. He was looking for answers after being left without a SummerSlam opponent. The crowd acknowledged the Tribal Chief as usual.

Before Reigns could say much, Seth Rollins’ music hit. The Visionary walked to the ring and immediately confronted his former Shield brother.

Rollins Makes His Case

Rollins told Reigns that he has something that belongs to him — the World Heavyweight Title. He reminded Reigns of their long history together, going all the way back to the formation of The Shield 14 years ago.

He brought up key moments between them, including WrestleMania match and the night he cashed in Money in the Bank to end Reigns’ first big run. Rollins said he has always been the one person Reigns could never truly beat when it mattered most.

He then made it clear: this might be their last real chance to settle things. Rollins challenged Reigns to a World Heavyweight Title match at SummerSlam.

Roman Accepts the Challenge

Reigns listened and then responded. He said Rollins was right about one thing — he doesn’t just want to beat him, he needs to beat him. Reigns said he wants his entire family to watch him do it.

Reigns accepted the challenge on the spot.

As the segment ended, Reigns looked at Rollins and said, “SummerSlam, we close the door on The Shield. Forever.”

What This Means for SummerSlam

This match has been building for years. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have a long and complicated history, and this will be their biggest one-on-one match in a long time.

With Oba Femi now set to face Brock Lesnar, the World Heavyweight Title picture is now clear. Reigns vs Rollins at SummerSlam is expected to be one of the biggest matches of the show.

Triple H later made it official on social media, calling it “a main event 14 years in the making.”
