John Cena is coming back to Raw. WWE announced on the October 26 episode of Raw that Cena will appear on next week's show on Monday, November 2, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It will be his first time on WWE TV since Backlash in May, and it comes on the last Raw before Crown Jewel. Here is what we know, including the date, start time and how to watch, plus what he could be there for.

Latest update: Cena teases the John Cena Classic

Cena has made it clear what next week is about. On October 27, he posted on X: "The wait is over, the speculation ends 11/2," followed by "Let's build this 'Never Seen' CLASSIC! OUR time is NOW!"

That points straight to the John Cena Classic, the fan-voted event he announced at Backlash in May. WWE still has not given a date, a location or any names for it, so expect Cena to fill in those details in Brooklyn.

When and where is John Cena's Raw return?

  • Date: Monday, November 2, 2026
  • Venue: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
  • Start time: 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT, two hours earlier than usual
  • How to watch: live on Netflix

The early start is because WWE is taping SmackDown at the same arena after Raw goes off the air. That makes it a big night in Brooklyn, and SmackDown will also have Kevin Owens vs. CM Punk, which was set for that taping on the October 23 SmackDown.

Where has Cena been since he retired?

Cena wrestled his final match on December 13, 2025, at Saturday Night's Main Event, where he lost to Gunther. It ended a farewell run that saw him win a record 17th world championship and the Intercontinental Championship, which made him a Grand Slam Champion.

He has not wrestled since, but he has not gone away either. He hosted WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas in April, and at Backlash in Tampa on May 9 he came out to announce a new event, the John Cena Classic. Backlash was his last WWE TV appearance before this one.

What is the John Cena Classic?

The John Cena Classic is a new event that puts main roster stars against wrestlers from NXT. The twist is how the winner is decided. Instead of match results, the fans vote for the performer they backed the most, and that person becomes the first John Cena Classic champion. In other words, someone could lose their match and still win the title.

Cena has said it will take place in December, but WWE has not announced a date, a location or any of the wrestlers taking part. He wants it to become a yearly event.

Why is Cena coming back now?

WWE has not said why Cena is appearing, and he is retired from in-ring competition, so do not expect a match. But the timing points to a few likely reasons.

  • The John Cena Classic. This is now the clear favorite. December is only weeks away, WWE has still not given a date, a venue or a single name for it, and Cena's own tease on X all but confirms he is coming to reveal it.
  • A big crowd for a big week. It is the go-home Raw for Crown Jewel and a double taping in a major market. Cena is the kind of name WWE uses to make sure a show like that feels important.
  • A passing of the torch. Cena's farewell run was built around the idea of handing the spotlight to the next generation. If he sets up the Classic by pointing at specific Raw and NXT names, that is a quick way to make those wrestlers look like stars.

What is unlikely is a link to the Crown Jewel card. The show is five days later, and the big matches, Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match, are already set without him. See the full card in our Crown Jewel 2026 preview.

What else is on Raw next week?

So far one match is set: Solo Sikoa vs. Royce Keys. Keys called Solo out on this week's Raw, promising to do to him what Solo has done to The Usos, and Solo accepted with The Bloodline behind him.

With Crown Jewel on the following Saturday, expect more of the show to be built around that card, including Sami Zayn ahead of his match with Reigns. For everything that happened this week, read our Raw results for October 26.

Cena's full career record and title history are on his profile. We will update this story if WWE announces more about his appearance.
