Lil Yachty Wants to Go Full-Time With WWE: "I Won't Ever Put an Album Out Ever Again"
Lil Yachty is serious about wrestling. In a new interview with Complex, the rapper said he wants to work for WWE full-time, and that he would walk away from music if wrestling works out for him.
Here is what he said, what he has done in WWE so far and where things stand with Trick Williams and Baron Corbin.
What Lil Yachty said
Yachty did not hold back when he was asked about his WWE future:
- "I'd like to go full-time; I'm trying to go full-time."
- "I won't ever put an album out ever again."
- He said that if he climbs the ranks in WWE and gets paid what he wants, he is done with music.
That is a big statement from someone with his profile in hip-hop, and it is the clearest sign yet that he sees wrestling as more than a one-off celebrity spot.
Lil Yachty's WWE run so far
Yachty has become a regular part of Trick Williams' story this year as his friend and ally. His biggest night came at Sunday Night's Main Event on September 6 in his hometown of Atlanta.
- He wrestled Baron Corbin in a match with a five-minute time limit. If Yachty survived without being pinned or submitted, Trick would get a rematch for the United States Championship.
- Yachty lasted the full five minutes and even made Corbin bleed.
- Trick then beat Corbin later that night to become United States Champion again.
Yachty has not been on WWE TV since the September 11 episode of SmackDown, when Corbin attacked him.
Where things stand now
Trick Williams is still United States Champion, and he challenges Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship on tonight's SmackDown. Corbin, meanwhile, is out of action. WWE said he suffered a cervical muscle strain, an orbital bone contusion and blurred vision after Cody Rhodes punted him on SmackDown on October 16.
With Corbin off TV, there is no obvious feud waiting for Yachty right now. But a full-time Lil Yachty in Trick's corner would give WWE a celebrity with real crossover reach, the same way Bad Bunny and Logan Paul did before him. Whether WWE wants him more often, and what that would cost, is the part he cannot decide on his own.
